Frequently Asked Questions
|
Where
is Mayville?

The Village of Mayville, New York is located in the westernmost
corner of the state in Chautauqua County. State Route 394 runs
directly through the Village. The festival site - Lakeside Park
- is bordered by Rt. 394 on one side, and with Chautauqua Lake
on the other. Mayville is approximately 10 miles from Exit 60
off I90 (the New York State Thruway) and is easily accessible
from I86 (formerly Route 17).
Once
I've found you, where do I park?
Just across the street from the festival site is a large parking
lot adjoining the former Ethan Allen manufacturing plant. Our
good friends at the not-for-profit Community Music Project help
us with parking. Parking is $5 per car, per day with unlimited
access. Look for signs.
Please do not attempt to park along the shoulder of Rt. 394. This
is the main artery through town, and our law enforcement officers
would like to keep it that way. For you RVers, please patronize
one of our local campgrounds.
Is
the festival wheelchair-friendly?
Lakeside Park is relatively handicapped accessible. There is a
paved track that rings in the park. Handicapped parking is just
inside the same gate that acts as our band entrance and which
is nearest to our ticket tent. Simply pull through this gate (it
is directly across from the main parking lot), and let the parking
volunteers know that you're searching for handicapped parking.
Is
there on-site camping?
Alas, there is no on-site camping. Lakeside Park is a public park
and is made available to the Mayville Bluegrass Festival through
the good graces of our village trustees who allow the festival
to take over the site for two days. Please visit the accommodations
page for many splendid camping options in addition to any number
of Inns and B&Bs. This is a seasonal community with a wide
variety of places to stay.
Can
I bring a cooler into the park?
Absolutely, but please respect the park's rules concerning alcohol.
There are four bars and restaurants within a stone's throw of
the festival -very appropriate places to enjoy your libation of
choice. And don't forget about the festival's late-night component
Saturday night!
I
forgot my toothbrush. What should I do?
There is a convenience store directly across the street from the
park. The actual village of Mayville is about a mile up the hill
where you will find a supermarket, two banks (with ATMs), a hardware
store (closed on Sunday), a few gift shops, eateries, and a drug
store. The Mayville Library - with the free internet access -
is also located in the Village.
What
facilities exist at the park?
Lakeside Park has a modest bathhouse with toilets, sinks and changing
stalls. No showers, sorry. We will have plenty of port-o-johns,
including one for wheelchairs. There is a brand new playground
on-site for the kids. There are also basketball and tennis courts
and plenty of room for kite-flying, frisbee throwing, juggling,
etc. if you wish to bring a few toys.
Are
there open jams and other activities?
Yes! Open jams take place by the lakeside sporadically throughout
the weekend, so don't forget your instruments. It's quite a nice
atmosphere with lots of picnic tables in the shade next to the
water. We dig it. Free workshops are available - please check
the workshop page for more details.
Is
there anything else I should know?
Please leave your pets at home. They'll probably be happier and
we won't be living in fear of lawsuits.
Say
I'm having so much fun, I end up spending the night Saturday.
What are my options for church Sunday morning?
Of course your first option is to head back to the festival for
our Sunday morning Bluegrass Gospel-Fest. But if you're looking
for something slightly more traditional, there are a number of
churches very close by. We will have a list of them available
at the gazebo.
If
there's anything we've missed, please send us an email, and we'll
do our best to get right back to you.
