Chris HillmanHerb Pedersen

Arguably the pioneer of the genre know as “Country Rock,” Chris Hillman has carved a pemanent niche in the history of contemporary American music through his work with such notable bands as The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers and the Desert Rose Band.

From Grammy nominations to his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, Chris is on icon in the Americana music scene. For a full bio, click HERE

Herb Pedersen began his career in Berkeley, California in the early 60's playing 5 string banjo and acoustic guitar with people like David Grisman, Butch Waller, David Nelson, and Jerry Garcia. Herb has done well in adding his talents to the recordings of many folk and country music artists of today.

For the last thirty years, Herb has lived in southern California, and participated in select music groups, either in recording, or traveling on the road doing concerts. His recording discography is like a who's who of the singer/songwriter scene, so prevalent in the 70s and 80s. His own groups, like The Desert Rose Band, and The Laurel Canyon Ramblers, show why Herb is so respected in the industry.

With his lifelong pal, Chris Hillman, Herb is in the process of continuing the type of music they both grew up playing and singing. There is a work in progress most of the time and that's the way Herb likes it. Full Bio click HERE

Bluegrass. Newgrass. Rock N' Rollgrass. True innovators defy easy categorization and John Cowan is the ultimate innovator. His ability to move easily between music styles and blend and bend genres into creative new forms has made him one of the most significant voices in acoustic music over the past thirty years.

After making a name for himself as one of the most in-demand vocalists in the early 1970s' music scene in Louisville, Ky., Cowan rose to fame when he became the lead singer for New Grass Revival. He and bandmates Sam Bush, Bela Fleck and Pat Flynn introduced a new generation of music fans to an explosive, experimental brand of bluegrass.

After inspiring and entertaining fans for nearly two decades, New Grass disbanded in 1990. Cowan immediately gave chase to his creative muse following it all over the musical landscape with a series of critically acclaimed albums. The Evansville, Indiana-native wrapped his expansive voice around tunes that ran the gamut from rock to soul to blues and beyond. As the 21st century began he found himself circling slowly, inexorably back to the acoustic music that he knew so well. He began to surround himself with some of the finest acoustic musicians working. MORE...

Dave Peterson Logo

David Peterson is a rare combination: a savvy independent recording artist and a bluegrass singer who cherishes tradition. His voice has that lofty quality that carries from mountain-top to mountain-top. It's powerful, complete and saturated with Bill Monroe and Jimmy Martin's blues. A Boston native, he's not somebody who would have been issued a bluegrass license at birth. But Peterson learned the music from a deacon at his churcand and as music writer Robert Oermann likes to say, there's nobody as zealous as a convert. When he got serious about the mandolin, the guitar and bluegrass music in 1995, he left his track from becoming a minister to pursue music. Now Dave preaches bluegrass with a missionary zeal. Audie Blaylock

Al Perkins today is equally at home in the studio adding his timeless pedal steel to albums by upcoming stars such as Julie Roberts, as he is adding white hot snarling lap steel to the dynamic live appearances of Kevin Montgomery, or complementing Chris Hillman's traditional bluegrass sound with his signature dobro playing.

Featuring 12 new recordings, Perkins' album Triple Play demonstrates the full repertoire of skills from one of rock's pioneers. Not a self-indulgent exercise in technique, this collection is primarily about songs, delivered effortlessly in his warm, expressive, bluesy vocals. More...

Sierra Hull

Cory and Jerrod Walker

It is rare that a young musician will take that spark of wonder that first inspired them to cradle an instrument and cultivate it to the point of full-blown virtuosity. Rarer still is for that virtuosity to emerge as just one facet of a well-rounded musical intelligence. Only seventeen years old as of this writing, Sierra Hull displays instrumental facility and musical maturity well beyond her age with Secrets, her national debut album. Hull began playing mandolin at age eight, and quickly became noted on the national festival scene for her fluid, inventive picking – winning several mandolin and guitar championships in the process. Ryan Holladay

Digger Davis and Tombstone

Multi-instrumentalist Ryan Holladay first performed on Nashville's historic Grand Ole Opry at the tender age of 5 years old, and is credited with being the youngest performer to grace that revered stage.

Ryan is now fifteen and has already released three albums. He has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show's "World's Most Talented Kids" episode, Nickelodeon's "Figure It Out," and PBS's "Zoom." Largely self-taught, his lightning-fast fingers are equally nimble on the banjo and mandolin, and he plays the guitar and Dobro as well. It all started at his granddad's house, when Ryan - little more than a toddler at the time - started listening to Flatt & Scruggs records. "The first time I heard Earl Scruggs play the banjo, I knew I wanted to play - I thought it sounded really, really cool," he remembers. More...

 Town Mt.

Straight Drive

Imagine the band that occupies the common ground between traditional bluegrass, outlaw country, and pure old time mountain music.  A group that harnesses the frantic energy of the modern punk string band, yet still remains respectfully rooted in the tradition of Bill Monroe.  Imagine a band with one foot proudly planted in the path of traditional bluegrass, and one foot stepping out into the unknown forefront of American string music.

This is Town Mountain, the exciting new sound from Asheville, NC.  Born out of the all night jam sessions and fertile picking scene of Western North Carolina, Town Mountain has emerged as one of the premiere young American bluegrass bands.  Great original songwriting, tight vocal harmonies, a charismatic stage presence, and instrumental expertise place this group in the upper tier of contemporary acoustic bands.  But, in the end, despite these qualities, it’s always the undeniable, irresistible energy of a live Town Mountain show that truly sets this group apart. Straight Drive's name comes from the type of music they play–straight bluegrass with plenty of drive. In a time where much of bluegrass music has veered towards the more polished and commercial sounds of "Music Row," Straight Drive has kept its identity firmly grounded in the grit and intensity of the classic, first generation performers of bluegrass music. As bluegrass great Ron Thomason has said, "Straight Drive plays bluegrass the way Bill Monroe or Carter Stanley conceived of it." A fan once described Straight Drive's sound as "bluegrass with no apologies." More...
